STRATEGIC PLANNINGPROSPECTS AND DEVELOPMENT
As set forth in the UFRJ Institutional Development Plan, the PIPGLA strategic plan for the four-year period from 2017 to 2020 was devised by the Self-Appraisal Commission in collaboration with its faculty, students, and administrative staff. In the context of social, economic, and environmental changes, organizations are undergoing processes of modernization in an attempt to enhance the transparency of their actions and ensure their results are made available to all their stakeholders. The aim is to develop a more in-depth perception of the links between societal demands and what public organizations have to offer, based on reflections about their administrative practices, their academic culture, and their communication initiatives. Accordingly, the PIPGLA strategic plan is based on five pillars designed to set the course for considering future improvements: transformation, communication, interpersonal relations, balance, and accountability.
According to this perspective, the strategic plan sets forth objectives and performance indicators for the program’s different areas of action, which are research, teaching, people, and internationalization, as set forth below.
Mission: PIPGLA is guided by a three-pronged mission: 1) to develop researchers who strengthen the field of applied linguistics and its relationship with social phenomena; 2) to train university professors in different areas that deal with issues of language; and 3) to foster the theoretical and practical training of professionals whose main tool of work is language.
Vision: To enhance the leadership role of PIPGLA, inspiring more plural discursive practices that meet the pressing needs of society today.
Values: Ethics and Transparency; Integration; Human and Cultural Diversity; Social Commitment.
